What Are Brass Swiss
Screw Machined Parts?

Brass swiss screw machined parts are precision components produced on Swiss-type automatic screw machines using brass bar stock. The term "screw machined" originates from the automatic screw machine — designed for continuous, automated production of small turned parts. Swiss-type screw machines combine high-output screw machining with Swiss-style guide bushing support.

The brass bar stock feeds through a guide bushing positioned immediately at the cutting zone, eliminating workpiece deflection. This enables long, slender brass parts with exceptional straightness, tight tolerances, and complex features — all completed in a single automated cycle.

  • Guide-bushing support Brass bar held close to the cut — eliminates deflection on slender geometries.
  • Tight tolerances ±0.005mm high-precision capability with CMM verification.
  • Single-cycle multi-feature Threading, knurling, cross-drilling, milling — no re-fixturing needed.
  • High-volume throughput Continuous automated cycles for millions of parts per year.

Why Choose Brass for
Swiss Screw Machining?

Brass is the benchmark material for screw machining. C3604/C36000 free-cutting brass holds a machinability rating of 100 — the reference point against which all other metals are measured. This delivers faster cycles, longer tool life, and lower per-part costs.

01

Unmatched machinability

C3604 brass machines at machinability index 100 — the highest of any metal — maximizing output and minimizing tool wear in continuous screw machine production.

02

Burr-free surface finish

Brass produces naturally smooth, clean surfaces in screw machining, eliminating secondary deburring operations in most applications and reducing total cost.

03

Corrosion resistance

Inherently resistant to atmospheric and fluid corrosion; further enhanced with nickel, tin, or chrome plating to meet specific environmental requirements.

04

Electrical conductivity

Essential for screw machined electrical contacts, terminals, and connector pins where conductivity is a core functional requirement of the part.

05

Dimensional consistency

Brass's low work-hardening rate ensures stable dimensions across millions of parts in continuous screw machine production runs without drift.

06

Thread quality

Brass threads cut cleanly and precisely, producing leak-free sealing surfaces critical for fluid control fittings and hydraulic connectors.

Brass Swiss Screw Machined Parts FAQ

Common questions from engineers and buyers about our brass swiss screw machining service.

Brass swiss screw machined parts are precision components produced on Swiss-type automatic screw machines using brass bar stock. The guide bushing supports the material immediately at the cutting zone, enabling tight tolerances, complex features, and high-volume output in a single automated cycle.

Swiss screw machining uses a guide bushing positioned immediately adjacent to the cutting tool, providing workpiece support at the point of cutting rather than only at the chuck. This eliminates deflection on small-diameter brass parts, enables tighter tolerances, better surface finishes, and higher length-to-diameter ratios than conventional CNC turning — all in a single uninterrupted multi-operation cycle.

C3604 (JIS) / C36000 free-cutting brass is the industry standard, rated at machinability index 100 — the highest of any metal. It machines cleanly, produces excellent surface finishes, and is available in precision-ground bar stock across a wide range of diameters. For RoHS or lead-free applications, we recommend C2680. For marine or high-corrosion environments, C46400 naval brass is preferred.

Our standard production tolerance is ±0.01mm. For precision-critical applications such as electrical contacts, medical fittings, or semiconductor connectors, we achieve ±0.005mm with full CMM verification using Mitutoyo equipment. Roundness tolerance of ±0.002mm is achievable on brass parts.

Prototype orders using in-stock C3604 or C3602 brass bar stock are available in 3 days. Standard production volumes typically complete in 2–4 weeks, depending on part complexity, order quantity, and finishing requirements.

Yes. We verify RoHS compliance using our SII XRF analyzer to measure lead, cadmium, and other restricted substances. For electronics applications requiring lead-free brass, we machine C2680 and other compliant alloys and provide full RoHS documentation with each order.

No. CNCPioneer accepts orders from single prototype pieces through to millions of parts annually. Our Swiss screw machine setup is equally optimized for prototype validation runs and long-run production contracts with no minimum order quantity for standard brass materials.

Yes. Our multi-axis Swiss lathes perform turning, threading, cross-drilling, milling, knurling, and grooving simultaneously in a single setup, eliminating re-fixturing errors, improving accuracy, and reducing lead time compared to conventional multi-operation turning.
