What Are
Spring Test Probes?

A spring test probe is a precision electrical contact between a pad, lead, bump, coupon, or device and a test instrument or fixture. It may be a fixed micro-pin, spring-loaded probe, socket contact, burn-in contact, or custom turned component. Tip profile, force, travel, pitch, and resistance must match the test interface.

Performance depends on tip geometry, diameter, straightness, hardness, force, stroke, contact resistance, wear, contamination, and alignment. CNCPioneer confirms the material, machining route, tip radius, plunger-barrel fit, plating, cleaning, inspection, and packaging before production.

  • Probe DFM for tip, force, pitch, travel, and test surface We review pad size, tip radius, pitch, force, stroke, overtravel, current, signal level, wear, alignment, contamination risk, and replacement before selecting the machining route.
  • Swiss CNC turning for miniature probe pins, plungers, and barrels Guide-bushing Swiss CNC supports small components with stable tip and barrel dimensions. CNC turning and MAZAK mill-turn centres produce larger contacts, sockets, fixture bodies, and threaded probes.
  • Materials and plating for low resistance and stable contact Copper alloys, brass, phosphor bronze, stainless, tool steel, and nickel alloys are matched to conductivity, force, wear, hardness, corrosion, and finish requirements.
  • 24-hour quotes from a China precision factory Send a drawing or STEP file with pad data, tip profile, force, stroke, plating, test cycles, quantity, or annual usage. We return pricing within 24 hours and DFM in 48.

Our Swiss CNC and mill-turn platform combines conductive-alloy expertise, micro-tip and barrel DFM, force control, selective finishing, and clean packaging for PCB, fixture, device, burn-in, socket, and production-test programmes. China production can provide a 40–60% cost advantage.

01

Probe Tip Geometry for Test Pad, Pad, Bump, and Device and Board Testing

Probes must make reliable contact without damaging the pad, bump, lead, or coupon. We review profile, radius, crown, chisel, flat, cup, point, contact area, pitch, alignment, force, travel, cleaning, and replacement around the actual test surface.

02

Plunger, Barrel, and Spring Test Probe Motion Control

Assemblies need a smooth plunger-barrel fit, stable spring seat, controlled stroke, and repeatable return. We review bore, plunger diameter, guide length, spring rate, working force, free length, travel, concentricity, wear, and fixture alignment. Qualified features can reach ±0.005mm diameter.

03

PCB and Fixture Test, Device and Board Test, Burn-In, and IC Socket Applications

Probes serve pad probing, device and board test, burn-in, IC sockets, memory and power-device test, handling, fixtures, and inspection. We review the interface, pitch, current, signal level, cycles, resistance, thermal conditions, fixture, replacement access, and cleanliness before defining the pin, barrel, plunger, and termination.

Spring Test Probes FAQ

Answers for buyers and engineers on probe geometry, structures, tip profiles, force, stroke, finishing, cleanliness, lead times, and quotes.

Send a 2D drawing or STEP file with probe function, pad geometry, tip profile, pitch, tip and barrel dimensions, material, force, stroke, spring specification, plating, resistance, cycles, quantity, and packaging. Without a drawing, we can review a sample or fixture photos with pad dimensions, test current, and expected volume.

Tip and force depend on pad or bump material, size, pitch, surface condition, acceptable marking, resistance, cycles, alignment, and available travel. Point or crown tips suit some oxide-breaking or small-pad applications, while flat, cup, ball, or chisel profiles suit other surfaces. We review geometry, working force, stroke, spring rate, fixture tolerance, and wear before approval.

C36000 brass suits machined plungers and barrels; C14500 and C11000 copper suit conductivity; C17200 and phosphor bronze suit resilient interfaces; stainless and tool steel suit guide, barrel, and wear parts. Gold suits low-level signals, nickel barrier and wear, silver conductivity, and tin selected power or solderable interfaces. The right combination depends on wear, force, resistance, cycles, cleanliness, and cost.

Simple turned components typically take 5–8 business days after drawing confirmation and material availability. Micro-tip, fine-pitch, spring-loaded, plated, force-tested, clean-packed, or documentation-heavy programmes commonly take 8–15. Volume lead time depends on material, CNC cycle, plating or spring supply, inspection, packaging, and quantity. Quotes arrive in 24 hours and DFM in 48.
